This spring we are honored and excited to host Tom Svolos, M.D. Lacanian psychoanalyst for a presentation on May 29th from 12:30-3:30 PM (CST) at our downtown location. We will offer 3 CEU for Master level therapists and this provides 3 of the 6 hours needed for Severe Mental Disorders and Treatment for the state of Nebraska.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Apply diagnostic approach of Lacanian psychoanalysis in distinguishing neurosis and psychosis
- Differentiate a clinical approach to a patient with psychosis and a patient with neurosis
Presenter
Thomas Svolos practices psychoanalysis in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a member of Lacanian Compass, the New Lacanian School, and the World Association of Psychoanalysis. Svolos received his BA in History from Duke University and his MD from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a psychiatry residency at the Creighton University School of Medicine, where he currently serves as Executive Vice Dean and Professor of Psychiatry.
Svolos is the author of “Starting Analysis” (in press, 2026), “Culture and Politics on the Couch: Lacanian Interventions” (Palgrave, 2024), “The Aims of Analysis: Miami Seminar on the Late Lacan” (Midden Press, 2020), and “Twenty-first Century Psychoanalysis” (Routledge, 2017). His writings have appeared in ten languages.

Learning Objectives
- Identify the characteristics of the concept of the archetype
- Identify the qualities and functions of spontaneous thought, as they relate to Jungian theory
- Identify the features of evolutionary psychology as they relate to Jungian theory
- Identify the features of metaphor theory that are applicable to Jungian theory
- Learn the definition of archetype that incorporates all of these, in a manner which is non-reductive and in agreement with analytical psychologists surveyed world-wide.
